TORONTO – The Canadian Olympic Committee issued the following statement today to congratulate the winners of the Sports Québec Gala which took place in Montreal.

I am completely convinced that thanks to such high caliber athletes, Canada will deliver exciting performances, worthy of the podium in Sochi, Rio and many other Olympic Games to come. »

Dominique Maltais has competed in the Olympics twice, and she won the bronze medal in 2006 in snowboard cross. Mikaël Kingsbury is the 2013 world champion in freestyle skiing, and he will represent Canada at Sochi 2014. Both are recipients of the Gala Sports Québec International Athlete of the Year Award, an award sponsored by the Olympic Committee Canadian and awarded to a female athlete and a male athlete from Quebec who have distinguished themselves exceptionally on the international sporting scene.
A four-time Olympic medalist, and the first and only Canadian Olympian to have won a medal at four consecutive Olympic Games, Émilie Heymans was also honored this evening at the Sports Québec Gala.
The 40th Gala Sports Québec, coordinated by the Corporation Sports Québec, took place this evening at the Center Mont-Royal, in Montreal. Organized every year, this event promotes sporting excellence by paying tribute to athletes who deliver exceptional performances. Sports Québec is a private organization that offers management support to sports federations established in Quebec. It also helps to promote and defend the interests of the Quebec sports community.
