Statement from the Canadian Olympic Committee on the IOC's update on Olympic sports in 2020

Communiqué

TORONTO – The Canadian Olympic Committee issued the following statement today:
regarding the update made by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) on
the three sports that remain in the running for the 2020 Olympic Games.

Among the eight initial contenders, the IOC Executive Board registered three
sports on his short list: wrestling, baseball/softball and squash. THE
final choice of sport which will be included in the program of the 2020 Olympic Games
will be announced as part of the 125th IOC Session, which will take place from 7 to 10
September 2013 in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

“We are very pleased that the IOC Executive Board voted to
keeping the fight for the final vote, along with two other fantasy sports. "Struggle
Canada" has worked hard over the past four months, and we
is to be commended for his passion and determination. Our country has a long
and proud tradition of excellence in the sport of wrestling. This reputation is based
on historical moments such as that when Daniel Igali, inducted into the Temple of
Canada's Olympic fame, won our country's first-ever gold medal
country in Sydney. Canada has also demonstrated its strength in the sport of wrestling, more
recently in London, when Tonya Verbeek and Carol Huynh won
silver and bronze respectively, thus adding other medals to their
legendary Olympic record. There will still be a lot of work to do between now and
until the final decision is made, but I remain confident that in 2020, we
celebrate even more great Canadian Olympic wrestling victories. »
