President Takeda explains why and how the city plans to host the Games
Tokyo, May 10, 2013 – Tokyo 2020 President Tsunekazu Takeda told the Foreign Correspondents' Club of Japan how to the city guarantees the organization of superb Games as well as the clear vision of Why Tokyo is the best choice.
Takeda said the Tokyo 2020 Games will be unforgettable, full of enthusiasm and passion: “Our vision is to unite all our unique strengths with the power of the Olympic Movement to deliver superb Games that will promote the Olympic Values to new generations in this period full of changes and challenges for sport. »
Emphasizing the importance of the power of sport, Takeda added: “Over the past two years, Japan has rediscovered the important place of athletes in our lives. Now, we want to maximize the athletes' journey and strengthen the place of sport and Olympism, and thus promote the Olympic Movement. It is Why we believe that the Olympic and Paralympic Games should come to Tokyo – we want to give something special back to the Olympic Movement after everything we have received through sport. »
Tokyo 2020 took this opportunity to reiterate how the Tokyo Games will renew and strengthen the Olympic Values for a new generation, leveraging the uniqueness of Japanese culture and national values, and making best use of three main strengths:
- Realization ; with Tokyo the Games will be in good, trustworthy hands in these uncertain times.
- Ccelebration; Tokyo will host an incredible celebration, full of passion thanks to the concentration of the Games in the heart of the city.
- Innovation ; Tokyo will use all the creativity of the most avant-garde city in the world for the benefit of sport.
Takeda also said: “Let me emphasize one important point – when it comes to hosting the Games, it is impossible to separate the Why du how to. The best Games like London 2012 have both. Tokyo 2020 is proud to have both, and we want to deliver the best Games. »
The press conference was held at the Foreign Correspondents' Club of Japan ahead of the SportAccord International Convention (St. Petersburg, May 26-31), where the three candidate cities for hosting the 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Games will present their projects to members of the Olympic family.

About the Tokyo 2020 Bid Committee
The Tokyo 2020 Bid Committee is the organization responsible for Tokyo's second consecutive bid to host the 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Games. The city of Tokyo, the thriving capital of Japan and candidate city for the Games of the XXXII Olympiad, established this Committee on September 15, 2011. Led by Tsunekazu Takeda, president of the Japanese Olympic Committee (OCJ), its Executive Council is composed of Olympic and Paralympic athletes and members from different spheres such as the Tokyo Metropolitan Government, the Tokyo Metropolitan Government of Japan, the COJ and the Japanese Paralympic Committee (CPJ). OCJ Vice-President Masato Mizuno is in charge of running day-to-day affairs at the Committee headquarters as general manager of Tokyo 2020. The International Olympic Committee (IOC) will designate the host city at the 125th IOC session in Buenos Aires, Argentina, September 7, 2013.
