La third edition of the Asian Youth Games officially opens this Wednesday, October 22. Delegations have been arriving in Bahrain one after the other since October 14. The competition has even already begun. Uzbekistan won the first gold medal of these Games on Sunday, in kurash. Events have also begun for volleyball, handball, kabaddi, and pencak silat. Thailand and China formed the largest delegations with 328 and 293 athletes respectively. 45 national Olympic committees and some 4.300 athletes will be in competition until October 31.
This edition is highly anticipated by the Asian Olympic Movement since the last two were cancelled. It is therefore necessary go back to 2013 to find traces of the last Asian Games, held in Nanjing at the time. China dominated the medal table and 29 different countries reached the podium.
