La room for maneuver for Russia and Belarus is shrinking. While the IOC has left the ball in the court of the international federations regarding their participation, in the same conditions as in Paris 2024, the International Ski and Snowboard Federation (FIS) will not play the game.
The FIS Council met on Tuesday and voted against the participation of Russian and Belarusian athletes as individual neutral athletes qualifying events for the Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games Milan-Cortina 2026. No Russian or Belarusian skiers or snowboarders will therefore compete on Italian snow next year. The International Skating Union (ISU), on the other hand, left the door open for them.Belarusian Viktoriia Safonova and Russians Adeliia Petrosian and Petr Gumennik have already qualified for the Games.
