Presidential meeting for Thomas Bach, Tuesday September 25 in New York. Present at the 73rd UN General Assembly, the IOC President met in a very official audience with the Iranian head of state, Hassan Rouhani. The opportunity for the two men to discuss a subject considered a priority on the IOC agenda: gender equality in practice and access to sport. Hassan Rouhani assured his Olympic interlocutor that Iran had made considerable progress over the last five years to guarantee better representation of women in the sporting field. A progress made notably by the choice of a female flag bearer at the opening ceremony of the last Asian Games, organized in August 2018 in Indonesia. Thomas Bach would have welcomed this initiative, before telling Hassan Rouhani that the IOC was closely following the evolution of sport in Iran and its progress towards diversity. Thomas Bach must continue his presidential meetings, this Wednesday and Thursday, September 27, on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.
