
Madrid will celebrate this Saturday the first Olympic Sports Day, an event organized by the capital's city hall in collaboration with the Spanish Olympic Committee (COE). On this occasion, Retiro Park will be transformed into a large sports stadium with around thirty thematic spaces devoted to different Olympic disciplines, sessions of Olympic athlete autographs and other free activities aimed at promoting Olympism and sports practice.
Carolina Marín, Olympic badminton champion in Rio, María Pérez, Olympic team walking champion in Paris, and David Cal, Olympic canoeing champion in Athens in 2004, are announced, as are gymnast Artemi Gavezou (Olympic vice-champion in 2016), boxer Ayoub Ghadfa (silver medalist in the super-heavyweight category in Paris 2024) and karateka Damián Quintero (Olympic vice-champion in Tokyo).
This first Olympic Sports Day will take place from 12 p.m. to 20 p.m. The general public will be able to learn activities such as archery, cycling, hockey, American football, table tennis, athletics, soccer, and ground golf. Paracycling and wheelchair tennis will also be featured. Madrid clubs, federations, foundations, and various organizations, such as the Sports Museum, will be involved.
