The big clean-up seems to have started in British gymnastics, after a series of testimonies from athletes about acts of violence and mistreatment on the part of certain coaches. The British Federation announced on Tuesday August 25 that the head coach of the national teams, Amanda Reddin (photo above), had been dismissed from her duties pending an independent investigation. She is one of the people targeted by the complaint of gymnast Amy Tinkler, bronze medalist at the Rio Games in 2016, filed last December with the federation for acts of harassment. In a report broadcast earlier this week on the ITV channel, another British gymnast, Ruby Harrold, bronze medalist at the Glasgow World Championships in 2015, says that Amanda Reddin had the habit of starving athletes with insufficient portions during meals. In the same report, Amanda Reddin denies these accusations and assures “ welcome favorably” the independent investigation opened by the British federation. Carried out jointly by UK Sport and Sport England, it is supposed to look into all the accusations noted for more than 10 years, but also analyze the way in which they have been taken into account, or not, by the gymnastics authorities.
