Record number of participating nations at the Asian-Oceanian Championships

The International Federation of American Football has announced a record number of teams and nations at the Asia-Oceania Flag Football Championships, which will be held in Ningbo (China) from October 24 to 26. The field will be made up of 28 teams and 16 nations. Five countries to make debut in IFAF continental competition : Samoa, China, Hong Kong, Jordan and Mongolia.

Thirteen teams will compete in the women's tournament, compared to nine in 2023. The field will also be denser in the men's tournament with 15 teams competing, compared to only eleven in 2023. The unprecedented scale of the competition could lay the foundations for a new format, as President Pierre Trochet confided to Francs Jeux : " In the long term, given the growth in the region, we do not rule out having a separate championship for Asia and Oceania. » Beyond the medals, the teams will fight to win a qualification for the 2026 World Championships.
