A woman running for president

Korea

Less than 500 days before the PyeongChang Games, the presidency of the South Korean Olympic Committee (KOC) is the envy of many. No less than 5 candidates are vying for the top position. They will have to be decided on Wednesday October 5 by the 1405 delegates expected at the elective general assembly. At the top of the list, a woman, Lee Elisa (photo below), 62 years old, world team table tennis champion in 1973, member of the National Assembly. Already a candidate in 2013, she was narrowly beaten by Kim Jung-haeng. Facing her, four men: Lee Kee-heung, the former president of the South Korean Swimming Federation; Chang Jung-soo, the former sports ambassador of the Bolivian Olympic Committee; Chang Ho-sung, the president of Dankook University; and finally Jeon Byung-kwan, a physical education professor at Kyung Hee University. The future president will remain in office until 2021. He will therefore lead the South Korean Olympic committee at the PyeongChang Games in 2018 and then at those in Tokyo in 2020.
